This is a profound quote by Mary Nooter Roberts (1998), well-known African art historian and writer. By this she explains the context for sub-Saharan perception in comparison to Western ideologies where there is a constant search for originality. In many African cultures, tradition is the departing point for gradual innovation and knowledge throughout the centuries - a different way of thinking of the value of change versus tradition.
